CEB management instructed to suspend employees disrupting services

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera states that the management of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) was instructed to suspend and take appropriate disciplinary action against any employee who disrupts the services or acts in violation of the guidelines issued by the CEB management. 

Taking to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to announce this, the Minister mentioned that the proposed reforms of CEB will be presented to the Parliament with amendments for approval. 
     
Wijesekera also said the CEB plans to submit the electricity tariff reduction proposal to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) next week.

Earlier today, the CEB’s Acting General Manager Eng. (Dr.) Narendra de Silva mentioned that leave of all employees was cancelled with effect from January 02. This was announced in a circular which declared that all services connected to the electricity supply as essential public services by way of an Extraordinary Gazette published on December 18, 2023.

On Tuesday (Jan.02), the Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union (CEWU) announced that its members would launch a three-day trade union action starting today, to urge Power & Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera to withdraw the Bill to restructure the CEB.
