Minister Kanchana Wijesekera says the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has been instructed to suspend all planned power interruptions for non-essential maintenance work on weekends and during the holiday season, in order to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Power & Energy Minister mentioned that new guidelines would thus be issued by the state-owned utility, on par with the international benchmarks on planned power interruptions for maintenance work.
Further, the ministry has also observed that unnecessary planned power interruptions for maintenance over the weekends are costing the CEB large sums of money for overtime payments.
