The Court of Appeal order issued to the Secretary General of Parliament to refrain from taking any action regarding the Parliamentary seat of MP Ranjan Ramanayake has been extended till March 16.
The order was issued by the Appeal Court bench comprising Justices Arjuna Obeyesekere and Mayadunne Corea.
The petition filed by MP Ramanayake seeking an interim injunction preventing the removal of his Parliament seat due to his imprisonment, was taken up for consideration once again today (11).
Accordingly, the Secretary General of Parliament will be unable to inform the National Election Commission that the seat has been made vacant. Further consideration of the petition will take place on March 16.
MP Ramanayake filed the petition before the Appeal Court on Feb. 02.
Parliamentarian Ramanayake who was sentenced on Jan. 12 to four years rigorous imprisonment, on Contempt of Court charges, also filed a motion before the Supreme Court over his conviction.
