The majority of the group were of the view that until the party leadership meets with the deputy leader and discusses matters and come to an agreement, no one should publicly speak about the presidential candidate.
The meeting was held at Temple Trees last afternoon under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The meeting was attended by the heads of the other parties within the United National Front and the UNP MPs.
The main aim of this meeting was to discuss matters regarding the parliamentary meetings this week.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had stated at this meeting that the best candidate who could comprehensively win the election would be revealed at the right time.
He had also noted that the right decision would be taken based on the agreement of all parties concerned.
