Wickrema Weerasooria, a director of the Development Lottery Board, has disregarded an order by finance minister Mangala Samaraweera and opened a tender for the printing of lottery tickets on August 22.
After a gazette notification was issued announcing the return of the
DLB as well as the National Lotteries Board to the finance ministry, the subject minister informed their directors to resign, and to halt all tender activities.
However, Weerasooria has remarked that he was not bound to obey the minister’s order and opened the tender, the DLB’s director general has informed the ministry secretary.
Samaraweera has instructed the secretary to immediately investigate the matter, and also to cancel the tender.
Meanwhile, reports say the president and the prime minister have taken steps to appoint news chairmen and directors to both the DLB and the NLB.
