Kiriella says no to no-confidence motion against Wijedasa

The UNP has no intention of moving a no-confidence motion against justice and Buddha Sasana minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe, says leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella.

The UNP working committee will discuss the matter at its meeting on August 17, he says.

Kiriella says neither MPs nor the average citizens can mediate in a
case pending before courts, but that anyone has the right to express views with regard to shortcomings in law’s delays and judicial administration.

It appears there is a plan to delay 80 files connected to fraud and corruption that had taken place during the previous regime, although police investigations concluded and the files handed over to the attorney general’s department over a year ago, he says.

The people have given powers of the judiciary to courts and the AG’s Dept. through parliament and today they question their elected representatives about the delays in these cases, he says.

Kiriella was speaking to the media after an alms giving at Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy to mark 40 years of political life by prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
