Best available team is fielded - Dayasiri

It is pointless to blame Sri Lanka Cricket or the selectors for the current debacle faced by the national team, says sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, noting that the best available team has been fielded.

He is referring to the water bottle and stone throwing incident at the
third one-day match against India at Pallekele.

Jayasekara criticized the spectator behaviour as disgusting and said it was an act of betrayal of the game and the country’s good name.

At a bad time for cricket in Sri Lanka like this, spectators should behave patiently and intelligently, without demoralizing the players further by such attacks, he said.

This is not the first time Sri Lanka suffered continuous defeats, and even South Africa and West Indies had experienced similar times, he said.

Many of our seniors are injured, and the current members have failed to perform well, he noted.

Jayasekara said talks would be held with the seniors on how to come out of this debacle and that views of the spectators too, would be welcome.
