Sri Lanka to host ICC’s annual general meeting in July

The Annual General Meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be hosted by Sri Lanka in July 2024, Minister of Sports Harin Fernando said.

Accordingly, the ICC’s Annual General Meeting of the year 2024 will take place from 19 to 22 July 2024 in Colombo, the minister said.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to announce this, Minister Fernando expressed that this will be a great boost for Sri Lanka with regards to both cricket and tourism.

On 10 November, the ICC suspended the membership of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), with immediate effect, on the grounds that the governing body is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.

Following a meeting of the ICC Board on 21 November, it was decided that Sri Lanka could continue to compete internationally both in bilateral cricket and ICC despite their suspension for breaching its obligations as a member in particular the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and without government interference.

However on Sunday (Jan.28) the ICC confirmed that the suspension imposed against SLC was lifted, with immediate effect. Issuing a statement in this regard the ICC said “The ICC Board has been monitoring the situation since the suspension and are now satisfied that SLC are no longer in breach of membership obligations”.
