Distributors threaten to suspend fuel supply!

The Petroleum Distributors Association said that it will suspend fuel distribution if a portion of the discount paid last year is recovered as a tax from the funds deposited for the purchase of fuel by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).

Joint Secretary of the Association Kapila Naotunna said the distributors are against the arbitrary decision taken by the CPC to charge 45 per cent of the discount paid last year.
Mr. Naotunna said that all CPC-controlled distributors are already paying a monthly fee of 0.25 per cent.

He said that the attempt to limit the amount of discount paid by the CPC to the distributors has been suspended by an injunction order obtained by four distributors from the Western Provincial Civil Appeals High Court.

Despite this, he said the CPC has informed that it will recover the amount from the already paid discount.

Mr. Naotunna further said that since this process is completely contrary to the court order, a case will be filed again under contempt of court.
