Ministers’ personal staff not to interfere in govt. affairs or financial transactions

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued an order to immediately halt the intervention of the personal staff of the Prime Minister or ministers in government affairs or other financial transactions on behalf of the Prime Minister or the ministers.

The Secretary to the President P. B. Jayasundara has informed all Secretaries of the Ministries through a circular.

Accordingly, letters or telephone messages on behalf of the Prime Minister, ministers or state ministers can only be issued by the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretaries to Ministries or Secretaries of State Ministries.

The circular directs all relevant secretaries to inform the personal staff – including the private secretaries and coordination officers – of the Prime Minister and ministers on the matter.

Further, President Rajapaksa has further ordered to rectify such activities had they been done previously.
