The *Chief Opposition* Whip MP *Mahinda Amaraweera* requested Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri yesterday (17) to inquire into allegations that 84 liquor licenses had been issued by demanding Rs. 10 million for the Sirikotha fund.

“These 84 liquor licenses had been issued while the programme to put a halt to such intoxicants, which is a grave issue. These licenses are being issued by demanding Rs. 10 million for the Sirikotha fund.

Please inquire into this matter and conduct an investigation,” Amaraweera urged the Deputy Speaker.

In response, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said, “I said this earlier too that from the day the Good Governance Government came into power not a single MP had been given liquor licenses. The Opposition is clinging onto fake news reports and trying to sling mud at the government. This should not be allowed in parliament. This issue came up at the parliament group meeting on the 16th and Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that no such issuance of liquor licenses had taken place.”
