Resignation of Muslim Ministers a farce?

The opposition members are of the view that the stepping down of all the Muslim ministers from the government is a farce.

This impression has been got mainly due to the statement made by Minister Rauff Hakeem that they would step down for a month.

During a television programme held yesterday, opposition MP Wimal Weerawansa said when one person is facing allegations, those who have no allegations against them too are joining him in temporarily stepping down with the intention if creating a wrong notion among the public.

He noted that by them all resigning collectively, they are trying to make it look like the allegations are not merely against Rishad Bathiudeen but against the entire Muslim community.

Ministers who resigned

Accordingly, Cabinet Ministers Rishad Bathiudeen, Rauff Hakeem, Kabir Hashim, AHM Haleem and five deputy ministers including Deputy Ministers Ali Shahir Moulana and AHM Fowzie have decided to resign from their posts.

Unfortunate

Meanwhile, the TNA stated that it was unfortunate that the Muslim MPs decided to resign.

TNA-MP Sumanthiran said yesterday it was the Tamils, today it’s the Muslims and tomorrow it would be another segment who would become the target of these extremists.

The TNA pledged their support for the Muslims and invited all those with proper vision to follow suit.
