Resolving the UNP Presidential candidacy issue entrusted to Ranil!

The task of resolving the dispute between Housing Construction and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa and Power and Energy and Business Development Minister Ravi Karunanayake regarding the presidential candidacy from the UNP, has been handed over to party leader Ranil Wickremesimghe.
The party backbenchers had requested Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday to intervene immediately in resolving the dispute between the two deputy leaders.

They had made this request when they met with the Prime Minister at Temple Trees last morning.

The backbenchers had noted that the two deputy leaders attacking each other in public was not a very good example with regard to the unity within the party.

According to the views of the backbenchers, the party should get the maximum support of both Ravi Karunanayake and Sajith Premadasa and therefore, the party leader needs to intervene and resolve the dispute among them.

Having heeded the request of the backbenchers, the Prime Minister had assured them that next week he would take measures to resolve this matter.

At a time when attention has been focussed with regard to who the UNP presidential candidate should be, Deputy Leader Ravi Karunanayake had attacked Deputy Leader Minister Sajith Premadasa openly. In retaliation, Sajit Premadasa too targeted Ravi Karunanayake and slandered him publicly.
