Value of stolen diamond to be checked at Peradeniya

The diamond stolen from a businessman in Arawwala, Pannipitiya valued at over 5 billion, is to be sent to the Peradeniya University to be inspected, according to Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara.

He noted that a court order would be obtained for the diamond to be sent to the Peradeniya University Geological Department for testing.

Although the diamond had been sent to the Gem and Jewellery Authority yesterday for testing, it had not been done.

The diamond had been stolen from a businessman according to a plan hatched by Makandure Madush recently and had been found from a house in Keselwatte, Panadura on March 05th.

A suspect named Kelum Indika alias Keluma had been arrested in connection with the theft of this diamond.
