According to the GCE A/L examination results released recently, 136,714 candidates who had qualified for university entrance, would lose their chance of getting into university.
The University Grants Commission noted that only 31,158 students would be able to gain admission to the 15 universities.
This time, 321,462 candidates sat for the GCE A/L examinations.
However, a high ranking UGC official said that in relation to 2017, this year 645 more candidates would be admitted to universities. Accordingly, in 2017 only 30,513 students had been admitted to universities.
In that year 258,415 candidates had sat for the GCE A/L examination while this time an additional 63,047 candidates had sat the A/L examination.
This time, 138,000 lose out on university admission!
