Cannot allow EPF to be invested in stock market – Lalkantha

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) cannot be managed on the whims of the rulers, says JVP politburo member K. D. Lalkantha.

He mentioned this addressing a seminar held in this regard.

Despite whichever government they are from, rulers should not
consider the EPF as their own, says Lalkantha.

These funds should be used for certain investments only with the agreement of the working class, he said.

According to him, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe always try to emphasis the lack of US Dollars and the government now is making plans to invest the EPF in the stock market due to the bankruptcy of the government.

Stating that this cannot be allowed considering the status of the Sri Lankan Stock market, Lalkantha says that this is a common issue and not just an issue of the SLFP, UNP or the JVP.
