Safari jeeps increased to 600 a day

Following a request by Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, the Government had agreed to increase the number of Safari Jeeps entering the Yala National Park to 600 vehicles a day, Ministry Spokesman W.M.D. Wanninayake said.

Earlier, the number of vehicles that was allowed to enter the park
was limited to 500 – 250 in the morning and 250 in the evening, for the benefit of local and foreign visitors.

Because of this restriction many tourists had be turned away. As such the Minister had requested President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Wildlife Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, to increase the number of safari jeeps entering the Park.
