‘Private sector’ under probe for funding CWG bid campaign!

The government is to investigate the private sector institutions that had reportedly funded in 2011 the then regime’s bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Finance Ministry will separately look into if those institutions had paid their tax dues.

Acting on a complaint it had received several months ago, the FCID
on November 21 quizzed ex-Central Bank governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal over accusations that hundreds of millions of rupees had been misused in the bid campaign.

He said the state spent Rs. 71,476,792, while the private sector contributed Rs. 586,636,115.
