Lalith, Anusha to prison hospital!

Former secretary to the president Lalith Weeratunga and ex-director general of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Anusha Pelpita are to be admitted to Welikada prison hospital with the mediation of a female doctor of the hospital.

The two are presently being held at the hospital’s ‘K’ ward, which
has a dispensary too.

The doctor in charge of the dispensary was Dr. Kandamby, and Dr. Sandya took over from him at 6.00 pm yesterday (07).

However, prison authorities did not get the two ex-officials examined by either doctor.

In the meantime, Dr. Nirmali Thenuwara went and examined the new prisoners, and recommended their hospitalization, citing that they were diabetics.

Appeal to be filed

Meanwhile, Weeratunga and Pelpita are going to appeal the verdict by Colombo high court judge Gihan Kulatunga, who found them guilty in the ‘Sil Clothing’ case and sentenced them to imprisonment and fines.

Their lawyer Kalinga Indatissa said an appeal would be filed and asked for a certified copy of the verdict.

The judge said a copy could be issued after correcting the printing mistakes, and told the lawyer to make the request today.
