21 districts affected by drought

The drought prevailing in 21 districts are affecting 1,809,895 persons belonging to 522,874 families, according to the Disaster Management Centre.

The worst affected are 256,542 persons belonging to 78,016 families in Kurunegala district.

The Centre also says 218,016 persons belonging to 68,786 families
and 91,522 persons belonging to 27,195 families in Puttalam and Polonnaruwa too, are affected.

Drinking water and dry rations are being provided to these families, said spokesman for the Centre Pradeep Kodippili, adding that Rs. 1.8 billion has been given to district secretaries for the purpose.
