Ravi gets special powers, office at Temple Trees!

Former minister Ravi Karunanayake has been given office room no. 105 at Temple Trees to coordinate UNP activities in Colombo district, according to lankatruth.com website.

He has also been given powers similar to a cabinet minister, with the prime minister empowering him to use letterheads with the logo
of the state to issue instructions to ministers and MPs, it says.

According to the website, Karunanayake is in charge of the rural infrastructure facilities development programme 2017 that is to be implemented by the National Policies and Economic Affairs Ministry next month.

It goes onto say that these are revealed in a letter he has sent on 22 August 2017, and that he is spending state money on a political project.

The letter, copied to the PM and general secretary and chairman of the UNP, accompanies a form to be filled by UNP ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers, MPs and electoral organizers, who will receive Rs. 20 million per electoral division.

Two telephone numbers mentioned in the letter are located at room 105 at Temple Trees.

The letter also gives instructions that a name-board detailing each of the projects costing no more than Rs. 6,000 be included in the project estimate.

Karunanayake resigned from the foreign minister portfolio pursuant to revelations at the bond commission that he received gratifications from Perpetual Treasuries that is implicated in the Central Bank bond issue.
