Massive underhand deal in SLT discarded cable tender

Sri Lanka Telecom is planning a fraud that will be second only to the Central Bank bond scam, says the National Movement for the Protection of Consumer Rights.

Its president Ranjith Vithanage alleges, in a statement, that SLT is violating the procurement procedures in tender calling in order to award a discarded consignment

of cables to two companies friendly with the subject minister.

The tender does not mention the amount of the cables on offer, which will lead to an underhand deal, although engineers can clearly give that information, it says.

After the cancellation of a previous tender called on 16 May 2017, a fresh tender was called on 13 July 2017 under no. L/0253/2017 and that will be opened on August 10.

Also, the safety deposit had been brought down from the previous tender’s Rs. 10 million to Rs. 500,000 and again to Rs. 50,000.
