Final decision on Wijayadasa on Monday!

Justice Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksha who is facing allegations of being responsible for the delay in administering justice, failure to fulfil his responsibility and five other allegations, by the UNP Working Committee and parliamentary group, will have his political fate determined next Monday (21) when they would decide if he would be removed from his position or if he should resign, according to UNP sources.

Based on these allegations, the UNP Working Committee and parliamentary group have unanimously
decided that Rajapaksha should resign from his post, but they are also scheduled to take into consideration the report of the three member committee appointed to look into these allegations, at the meeting held between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the UNP Working Committee and parliamentary group recently.

“I will not look back until the Hambantota Port is taken back” was the statement made by Rajapaksha, while the  UNP Working Committee had given the Justice Minister until Monday to correct his statement.

Another Ministry?

According to UNP sources, the Working Committee had no objection to Wijayadasa being allowed to hold onto his Buddhasasana Ministry and even be assigned another ministry instead of the Justice Ministry.

Meanwhile, although the UNP back bench MP’s were trying to bring in a no confidence motion against Wijayadasa Rajapaksha, due to the objections of the Chief Prelates of the three Nikhayas, it was abandoned.

Wijayadasa’s stance?

However, Wijayadasa Rajapaksha has refused to resign from his ministerial post.

He said at the time he had voiced his objections against the corruption of the Rajapaksa regime and stood as an independent MP, and at a time when no one even looked at the UNP, he had joined the UNP on the request of Ranil Wickremesinghe. Hence, he said he is just waiting and watching to see how Ranil Wickremesinghe acts in this instance towards him, who stood by the UNP at a time when it was a party that was disregarded by all.
