Nadeesha, Kalinga, Aruna through to 400m finals

Nadeesha Ramanayake managed to secure a place in the 400m finals at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium (Big Lotus) in Hanje yesterday and is hopeful of winning a medal at the Asian Games. Kalinga Kumarage and Aruna Darshana managed to book their spots in the men’s final of the event.

In the women’s 400m event, Nadeesha, who joined the second race of the preliminary round, finished second with a time of 52.67 seconds. There were three matches in the preliminary round and according to that Nadeesha got third place among 18 players.
In the men’s 400m event, Kalinga Kumarage, who entered the first round of the men’s preliminary round, finished the event with a time of 45.57 seconds and entered the final after coming first in that round, while Aruna Darshana, who entered the third preliminary round, finished third with a time of 46.07 seconds. Kalinga was in third place among 22 players, while Aruna was placed overall eighth. Two Japanese players are ahead of Kalinga with a time of 45.56 and 45.57 seconds.

The finals are scheduled to be held today (30), and accordingly, the women’s final will be held at 5.30 pm local time and the men’s final match will be held at 5.40 pm. Earlier, the men’s 400m semi-final had been planned, but the organizers later cancelled it.

Under the athletics competition, the women’s 200m preliminary rounds will be held at 7.10 am Sri Lanka time, and Rumeshika Rathnayake representing Sri Lanka is going to participate in this event. The semifinals of the event will be held at 5.05 pm and the women’s 1500m final at 5.50 pm. Gayanthika Ratnayake will compete in the 1500m event.

Golf

In the second round of the golf event, Nataraj Thangaraj finished 36th with a score of 141 and qualified for the third round. 41 players qualified for that round, and the other three Sri Lankan players did not qualify. Anura Rohana (46) and Mithun Perera (47) scored 145 points each and K. Prabagaran (60) also scored 150 points.

In the team event, Sri Lanka (431) missed out on entering the third round. The Sri Lankan team scored 213 points on Thursday, and yesterday’s score was 218 points. However, only the first 10 teams were able to qualify for the third round, and the Sri Lankan team, which was in 12th place on Thursday, fell to 13th place yesterday.

Cricket

Hong Kong and Singapore won the matches held yesterday in the men’s preliminary round of the cricket event.

In the 5th match of this tournament held at the Zhejiang University Cricket Ground in Hangzhou yesterday morning, the Hong Kong team managed to record an easy 9-wicket victory over Cambodia, while Singapore won by 99 runs in the 6th match against Thailand.
