In addition to the 10,000 job quota approved by the Malaysian Government, another quota of 10,000 jobs has been allocated for members of the security forces in Sri Lanka, Labor and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said yesterday (15) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo.
Speaking at an award ceremony to recognize foreign employment agencies, the minister said Sri Lanka is now looking for new destinations and Malaysia has become a unique destination.
“The previous Malaysian Government approved a quota of 10,000 jobs for us. In addition to this quota, the current Malaysian Government has given us more jobs starting from 10,000 and going up to 100,000. We were able to approve a quota for the members of the security sector in the country.”
“Meanwhile, we have made plans to move towards a monthly foreign remittance target of one billion dollars. Therefore, the goal and responsibility of directing the largest number of people to foreign jobs in history has been entrusted to the employment agencies. We as the government are focusing on the welfare of the migrant workers. Accordingly, we are working to provide many projects and facilities including daycare centers and hostels for the children of migrant workers,” he said.
