Actress Tanasha ordered to return property to grandmother

Actress Ruchini Tanasha Hatharasinghe, who was gifted a property in Kollupitiya from her grandmother, was ordered by the Colombo District Court to return the said property back to her grandmother since the actress has failed to show kindness to her and take care of her.

The Colombo District Court issued this order ruling that the grandmother, who handed over the property to her granddaughter while holding the life estate, was treated disgracefully by her granddaughter.

The accused actress was ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.5 million and Rs. 30,000 monthly to her grandmother until the property is legally handed over to her.

Colombo District Judge Poornima Paranagamage delivered this order after considering the case filed by the actress’s grandmother Jayanthi Perera (72).

The District Judge has pointed out in her order that the actress was not only rude to the grandmother who gifted the property, but also behaved disrespectfully while testifying in the court.

Issuing the order, the Judge said the complainant has well proved that the accused had treated the grandmother with unkindness and ingratitude, instead of taking care of her with love and kindness.

The grandmother, who lived with her children in the Kollupitiya area of Colombo since 1972, handed over the relevant property to the actress, the eldest grandchild of her family, in 2010, while holding a life estate.

Counsel who appeared for the plaintiff pointed out that following the property transfer, the accused had sent the grandmother out of the house under the excuse of repairing the roof and then had not even bothered to check in on the grandmother.

“I didn’t know that my grandmother was suffering from a heart disease. She should have told me that she is not doing well. If necessary, I can give her money for treatment, I did not see or meet her until this case was filed,” the defendant said while testifying.

Considering these facts, the Judge ordered the property be handed back to the grandmother.

Attorney S.Janagan with Iraj de Silva appeared for the prosecution while Attorney Niranjan de Silva appeared for the defence under the instructions of Attorney Nalin Samarakoon.

Tanasha, who won the second place in Derana Miss Sri Lanka pageant, then participated in the Miss Globe pageant as well.
