Special relief for 66,000 families to ensure food security

A special allowance will be given to 66,000 families in order to ensure food security, Presidential Advisor Dr. Suren Batagoda said. 
Dr. Batagoda, the head of the National Food Security Programme, said that a monthly allowance of Rs.15,000 will be given to these families for a period of six months.
 
Meanwhile, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told Parliament yesterday (29) that according to current surveys, 21,000 children in Sri Lanka suffer from malnutrition.

The minister further mentioned that this figure is expected to grow to 40,000.
