Sri Lanka government has printed money amounting to the value of Rs 659 billion in 2020 while in February, 2021 alone, a sum of Rs 74 billion has been printed.

Because of these excessive money printing, economists point out that the rupee will be further depreciated and the value of dollar may go up to Rs 230 or Rs 240.

They also said that at present, Rs 5000 notes are largely circulated and used for transactions and as a result, in the future, new Rs 2000 and 10,000 notes might be printed.

At the same time, it has been reported that coins at the value of Rs 20 are going to be introduced.
