Covid-19 vaccine will be made a global public good - Xi Jinping

The Covid-19 vaccine development and deployment in China, when available, will be made a global public good, Chinese President Xi Jinping today (18) at the opening of the 73rd session of the World Health Assembly.


Speaking via video link, he said that this will be China's contribution to ensuring vaccine accessibility and affordability in developing countries.

that China supports a “comprehensive evaluation” of the global response to the coronavirus pandemic after it “has been brought under control”, and will work with the United Nations to set up a global humanitarian response depot and hub in China.

“This work needs a scientific and professional attitude, and needs to be led by the WHO; and the principles of objectivity and fairness need to be upheld,” he said.

Xi also pledged $2bn (£1.65bn) over two years to help with the Covid-19 response.
