Judges ask CJ for investigation regarding Ranjan’s tapes

The High Court Judges Association is planning on asking the Chief Justice to conduct an investigation regarding the controversial recordings of telephone conversations between former Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake and several judges, it is reported.


The High Court Judges Association had convened a meeting with judges from throughout the country and discussed this issue, they had told the media.

The High Court Judges had highlighted the importance of safeguarding the independence of the judiciary and as such had taken the decision to notify the Judicial Services Commission and the Chief Justice.

They had discussed at the meeting that the manner in which certain judges had acted is an insult to the judiciary.

The judges had asked the Chief Justice to take measures to protect the integrity of the judiciary and prevent the public losing faith in the judiciary.
