Anura to contest Prez polls ; UNF candidate from UNP

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday (18) announced the party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the presidential candidate of the National People's Power (NPP), the alliance headed by the JVP at the upcoming presidential election.


The JVP made this announcement at the National People's Power Rally held at the Galle Face Green last evening.

Meanwhile, speaking to BBC Sandeshaya, General Secretary of the UNP Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had said that the leaders of the United National Front (UNF) have agreed to field a candidate from the United National Party (UNP) as the UNF presidential candidate at the next Presidential election.

He has added that the agreement was reached at a meeting of the leaders of the UNF held at the official residence of Minister Rajitha Senaratne on Saturday (August 17).
