Harin dumbfounded over letter for trying to blame Hathurusinghe for defeat

A group of former cricketers are said to have requested an appointment to meet with the President and Prime Minister to request the removal of Sports Minister Harin Fernando after the Bangladesh tour, it is reported.
There are players who represented the 1996 world cup winning team among this group.

They claim that the coaches and the Sports Minister should take the responsibility for the Sri Lankan team having been knocked out of the first round itself.

This team has written to the President and the Prime Minister stating that it was the Sports Minister who had approved the recruitment of Hathurusinghe and approved the world cup team as well.

Hathuru’s balance is yet to come

The Sports Minister had instructed the Sri Lanka Cricket Board to notify all the coaches to resign from their posts after the Bangladesh ODI tour.

The letter to SLC also notes that their contracts should be re-evaluated.

52-year-old leader!

Meanwhile, the UNP seniors are agitated over a statement made by Harin Fernando at a ceremony held at the Badulla District Secretariat that Sri Lanka would be ruled by a 52-year-old leader.

He had stated, “This is a time that the people and the UNP are politically fed up. However, we can pin some hope on Sajith Premadasa. The reason being that the people can have hope of a change for the country with this 52-year-old leader than the same old traditional system. I believe that if we are to come out of the rut we fell into by forming this unity government, we need a leader like Sajith Premadasa who has been actively engaged in politics since 1995 and who has been able to win the love and respect of the village folk. Therefore, I believe that we should give way for a leader who is loved by the people at this next Presidential election. This is the correct method.”
