Colourful Hijabs to replace black burka?

Prominent muslims in Sri Lanka are considering to introduce burkas of several colours to Sri Lankan Muslim women, instead of the black burka that covers the entire face and body.

Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', a medical professional involved in the initiative said that the measure is taken after considering the wave of protest raised against the traditional garment following the Easter Sunday bombings.

He added that a discussion on this regard was held last evening (25) group of professionals in the garment field and accordingly, hijabs in several colours such as pink, green and orange will be introduced to the Sri Lanka Muslim women in the near future.

Meanwhile the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) organisation yesterday requested Muslim females to cooperate and identify themselves and remove their face veil whenever necessary taking into account the emergency situation and the heightened security prevailing in the country.

They also requested them to not to create any situation where others would feel threatened and to carry their identity cards or any other form of identity and to cooperate fully with security officials.
