Gazette released : nothing new for Kiriella!

Although the UNP said that the discrepancies in allocating subjects of the current cabinet would be rectified and a new gazette would be released, there has not been a significant change in the new gazette issued by the President on January 16th.
Minister of Public Enterprise, Kandyan Heritage and Kandy Development Lakshman Kiriella had been told he would be assigned several state institutions but he has not been assigned anything new in the latest gazette notification.

The Police Department which was taken under the President in his Defence Ministry portfolio had been retained by the President and only the name had been changed as Sri Lanka Police Department.

The only significant change in the new gazette notification is the Labour Department, National Institute of Labor Studies, EPF, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Office of the Commissioner for Workmen's Compensation, Shrama Wasana fund, Department of Manpower and Employment, Sri Lanka Employment and Employees' Trust Fund Ltd. and labour relations which was under the Labor, Trade Union Co-operation and Social Empowerment Ministry has been assigned under a non-cabinet ministry.

Accordingly, these nine institutions which were under Minister of Labor, Trade Union Cooperation Daya Gamage have been assigned under non-cabinet minister Ravindra Samaraweera.

Several institutions to Harsha

Further, the gazette notification has indicated an increased the number of institutions under the non-cabinet ministry of Economic Reforms and Common Provisions.Previously, the only institution under Dr. Harsha de Silva was the National Institute of Policy Studies.

In addition the Food Commissioner's Department, Department of Statistics, family economic unit, Data analysis unit, 1990 Suwaseriya Foundation and Public Procurement Task Force were assigned under his ministry.
