15 MPs to propose that SLFP quits govt

MP Sudarshani Fernandopulle says that a written proposal will be handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena today (13) calling for the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to leave the national government.

She stated that the request will be made presented in writing
according to a unanimous proposal of the group of SLFP parliamentarians who recently quit the government.

Accordingly the group of 15 MPs had extensively discussed the matter in the past couple of days and they had proposed that the SLFP should no longer continue to be part f the national government.

The MPs have also said that they would have to take a decision on whether to participate in SLFP central committee meetings, if the party does not leave the government.

They group is expected to  brief the President, who is also the leader of the SLFP, regarding the proposal.
