Susil to show stars to the people on Sunday!

The Planetarium which comes under the Science and Technology Ministry, used to be closed to the general public on Sundays, but measures are being taken to open the facility for the benefit of the star gazers on Sundays from now on.

This measure was taken based on a recommendation of Minister
Susil Premajayantha.

The motive of this move is to create interest regarding astronomy among the younger generation and encourage them on the new research and advancements of the astronomy field.

Issuing a statement, the Science and Technology Ministry stated that as an initial measure in creating awareness and encouraging interest on astronomy, the Planetarium will remain open on Sundays and entrance will be free of charge.

Accordingly, on Sunday March 04th a special lecture on astronomy will be held by Professor Chandana Jayaratne at 10.00 am, followed by a special display.

Professor Chandana Jayaratne is a renowned intellectual on astronomy I the country and in his lecture, he will illustrate on the origins of the universe.

Subsequently, participants will witness a planetarium show.

Anyone interested in astronomy or stargazing can participate in this event and as seats are limited to just 500, the public are advised to be there early and take their seats by 9.30 am.
