It is reported that theses suspects were kept in the remand cell of the
visitor’s hall in the Magazine Prison to facilitate visitors coming to see them.
A prison spokesman said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was also remanded in the same prison cell in the 1970’s. He further said that the son of former President Namal Rajapaksa, former politicians and high ranking government officials were kept in this special cell from time to time.
It is reported that no prisoner could enter this area and special security has been provided to the “E”section under a jailer.
There is a rumour all over the prison that special facilities have been provided to this prison cell.
But Commissioner General of Prison Nishantha Danasinghe said that these two suspects have been kept in Special remand cell in “E” section and no special facility had been provided.
He further said, that no one was permitted to enter that area. (Jayantha Samarakoon)
