He said the commission report had determined that Karunanayake
had maintained close ties with Arjun Aloysius.
He said this addressing a gathering at the Sarasi hotel in Matara.
Tennakoon said it could be speculated that Karunanayake would have made some gains through the close ties he had with Aloysius, but it was clearly evident that the mastermind in this scam is none other than the UNP leader and his band of friends.
The Tilak Marapone committee had clearly safeguarded the true thieves of the bond scam and sacrificed the UNP deputy leader Ravi Karunanayake, which is clearly an election gimmick, he said.
Tennakoon further said, “In today’s politics the true thieves and their best buddies are using the small cats to make them look like lions and are sacrificing these small cats for their gain.”
He noted that the true thieves of the bond scam should definitely be punished. Why has the President still allowed the Central bank to be under the Prime Minister? Is it because he still trusts him? The President should make a clear statement regarding this situation, Tennakoon said.
