Only two pipes carry oil to refinery

Three of the five pipes that take oil from Colombo port to Sapugaskanda refinery are out of order.

Even the two pipes presently functional need repairs, reports say.

There were nine pipes in all – four laid by the English and the other
five laid at the time the Sapugaskanda refinery was set up.

Only two of the pipes laid in 1920 – the ones that carry gas oil and furnace oil - are now in use.

However, neither have seen any repairs and that could by quite risky, experts warn.
