Gamini Senarath petitions Supreme Court

Gamini Senarath, chief of staff of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, yesterday (03) filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order to prevent his arrest.

In his petition, Senarath says he will not leave the country if his request is given.

The respondents cited are the attorney general and the OIC of the
FCID, which has obtained a court order banning Senarath from leaving the country.

Senarath, Neil Hapawinna and Piyadasa Kudabalage are wanted in connection with the criminal breach of trust over Rs. four million of belonging to Sri Lanka Insurance, Litro Gas and the EPF.

The FCID told courts that as they went to arrest them on October 31, the three had fled their homes and no information could be obtained with regard to their whereabouts.

There were reports that Senarath was being harboured by a top government minister.
