Elections Commissioner Says Local Government Election Will Be Held Any Day Between January 20 – 31

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, at a meeting called at the Commission yesterday (1), confirmed that the Local Government elections would be held in January.

The Elections Commissioner confirmed that the Local Government
elections would be held any day between the 20th and the 31st of January 2017.

Yesterday (1), Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Faiszer Mustapha signed the Gazette notification relating to the Local Government elections.

Last week the government announced at the conclusion of an all-party meeting that the oft-postponed Local Government elections would be held on January 27.
