Maithri asked to follow what Mahinda did

President Maithripala Sirisena was asked at yesterday’s (24) cabinet meeting to rule the country in the same manner his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa did.

Rajitha Senaratne made the request, when the matter of the rising cost of living was discussed by the ministers.

He noted that Rajapaksa had summoned state officials every week,
discussed problems relating to the cost of living, and gave solutions.

Ministers who spoke here alleged the cost of living committee was not accepting suggestions from economists in the finance ministry.

The committee, chaired by Malik Samarawickrama, also comprises Risath Bathiudeen, Mahinda Amaraweera and Duminda Dissanayake.

At the previous cabinet meeting, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Dayasiri Jayasekara and Susil Premajayantha noted the price of a kilo of Thalapath (sailfish) had gone up to Rs. 1,200.

Fisheries minister Mahinda Amaraweera claimed his ministry outlets were selling at Rs. 800 a kilo.

Jayasekara responded asking Amaraweera to open ministry outlets at his hometown too.
