Noting the most recent case in point, chairman of the commission P.H. Manatunga says the police chief had no powers to suspend,
again, SP Priyadarshana Herath.
The commission has the full powers to appoint positions from OICs to DIGs, to make transfers, promotions and hold disciplinary inquiries.
Manatunga was quoted by ‘Ravaya’ as having said that he would discuss the matter with other members of the commission and take remedial measures by the weekend.
He added that he has handed over a list to the speaker of parliament detailing the decisions not implemented by the police chief.
