SLC's channel head tenders resignation!

Kamal Deshapriya has tendered his resignation, effective from February 28, as channel head of Sri Lanka Cricket which has no television or radio channel.

He is leaving over a dispute with regard to match telecasting rights
with SLC deputy secretary Ravin Wickramaratne, reports say.

At the heart of the dispute is Ravin’s attempts to favour a company run by his brother-in-law who has lost from the closure of CSN channel.

Deshapriya was recruited in order for SLC to carry its own telecasting and broadcasting of the matches.

While the channel head has tendered his resignation, an interview has taken place to recruit a deputy channel head.

The state run SLRC and SLBC have been denied the rights despite the existence of a cabinet paper that prioritizes the two when granting sports telecasting and broadcasting rights.

Meanwhile, minister Mano Gandeshan has asked that SLRC’s Tamil language Netra channel and Channel Eye be given the telecasting rights of cricket, which he described as the fifth religion in the country.

He made the request in the presence of president Maithripala Sirisena at the launch of the Netra channel.
