Devalaya robbed, a month after Ranil's inauguration

A police investigation have been initiated over a robbery at the Wennappuwa – Koswatte, Potuwatawana Viharaya Vishnu Devalaya, where thieves had stolen a Conch shell (Valampuri), gold chain and Rs. 130,000 in cash.

According to the police, the theft is believed to have taken place between 09.00 pm on the 19th to 08.00 pm on the 20th.

Investigations commenced subsequent to a complaint lodged by the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Siddamulle Vajirawansa Thera.

The monk in his complaint had stated that the thieves had broken the till and stolen the cash in it, a conch shell placed on the Vishnu statue valued at Rs. 500,000 and a 3½ sovereign gold chain.


Meanwhile, last month the Prime Minister had declared open the Sanghawasa (monks’ abode) at the temple last month.

So far the police have not identified any of the thieves.

The Koswatte Police is investigating further.
