Chamara, Ananda’s spouses face defeat!

At the just concluded Local Government election, former Provincial Councilors Milroy Fernando and Gunaratne Weerakone had been defeated.

Meanwhile, the former Mayor of the Kaduwela Municipal Council
G.H. Buddhadasa, who had been functioning as the Chairman for a long period, was also defeated at this election.

The wife of the Uva Chief Minister Chamara Dasanayake, Shehani Basnayake contested for the Ella Pradeshiya Sabha, but she lost the election while the wife of the former councilor Ananda Sarath Kumara had also been defeated at the LG election.

Both Chamara and Ananda were both in the limelight recently over the incident where a Principal was made to kneel before the Chief Minister, for having disregarded his recommendation to admit a child to a school.

Former Councilor Gunaratne Weerakone had contested the Karandeniya Pradeshiya Sabha under the UPFA banner while Milroy Fernando had contested for the Wennappuwa Pradeshiya Sabha under the SLFP banner.

However, Milroy Fernando had only managed to secure 160 votes from his electorate.

Meanwhile, the Podujana Peramuna candidate had obtained 1612 votes while the UNP candidate, a female had secured 1350 votes.

Even the candidate from the JVP had secured 311 votes.
