Naval personnel involved in gold racket in Northern seas?

On October 01, 2014, three years ago, the Sri Lanka Navy had apprehended two persons smuggling 45 Kg of gold to India in the Northern seas, while the seized gold had been handed over to the customs on the instructions of the Northern Naval Commander.

The gold was confiscated through a roundup carried out by the
naval vessel ‘Ranadheera’ and handed over to the customs, but the reward that was scheduled to be given to the naval and customs officers involved in this operation has still not been given to them. The reason being the shortfalls in the report issued by the navy in this regard.

The navy has also pointed out that certain incidents with regard to this incident is a clear indication that certain members of the navy could be involved in this racket.
