Prime Minister's post: Speaker's name proposed

The fissures within the unity government over the post of Prime Minister have been widened with a group of UNP MPs pushing for the appointment of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as the Prime Minister.

This proposal has already been placed before the party’s
parliamentary group.

Meanwhile, the UPFA has proposed the name of Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva as prime minister however, several UNP MPs want Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to continue in office. (Kelum Bandara)
