This petition has been filed by around 20 women including
prominent actress Swarna Mallawarachchi.
They claim that this appeal should not considered as women’s appeal to consume alcohol but it is flouting the basic human rights of a woman to be told they do not have the same rights as men.
A group including actress Samanalie Fonseka had earlier filed a petition in the Supreme Court in this regard.
