Railway strike called off

Railway trade unions have decided to call off their strike which was due to be launched with effect from midnight today (08).

The decision had been made following the discussion held between Railway trade unions and government authorities this afternoon
with regard to salary anomalies and other demands.

The discussion which was headed by the Prime Minister’s Secretary was held at the PM’s Office.

Transport and Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Ashok Abeysinghe also participated in the discussion.

Railway trade unions including railway drivers, station masters, and guards yesterday (07) decided to engage in a 48-hour strike action with effect from midnight today.

Speaking to Ada Derana, Station Masters’ Union President Janaka Fernando said the strike will be staged based on a number of demands including salary anomalies.
